Week 8 (October 20 - 23)

This is a short week (only 4 days!), so let's make the most of it! Preview for next week: Vocabulary Quiz on #11-25 on Monday/Tuesday. Please use the long weekend to catch up on Notebook Assignments. You should have work up to page 52 in your notebook to complete.

Assignments for this week:

Monday/Tuesday (10/20-10/21):
1. Vocabulary Quiz (#1-10).
2. Read Oed. Scene 3/Ode3. Work on the following assignments in class:
a. Dialogue Journal for Scene 3/Ode 3 (put on page 50 of Notebook).
b. Motif Chart (on page 49 of Notebook).
c. Function of Chorus: Ode 3 (already in Notebook, page 45).

Homework:
1. Dialogue Journal
2. Motif Chart
3. Vocabulary #11-25, quiz next Monday/Tuesday

Wednesday/Thursday (10/22-10/23):
1. Read Oed. Scene 4/Ode 4 (and Exodos, if time).
2. Work on the following assignments in class:
a. Dialogue Journal for Scene 4/Ode 4 (on page 52 of Notebook).
b. Function of the Chorus: Ode 4.
c. Motif Chart (new page...on page 51 of Notebook).

Homework:
1. Catch up on: Dialogue Journals for all scenes in Oed.
2. Catch up on other Notebook Assignments.
3. Complete work for and study Vocabulary #11-25. Quiz next Monday/Tuesday.

Week 7 (October 13 - 17) REVISED!

Since period 4 missed Friday this week for the OUS College Visitation Presentations, we will postpone our Vocabulary Quiz until next Monday/Tuesday. Use this extra time to study!!!

Assignments for this week:

Monday/Tuesday (10/13 and 10/14):
1. College Application Essay-Final Draft due.
2. Oedipus the King: finish reading through Scene 1/Ode1.
3. Dialogue Journals for:
a. Prologue/Parados (on page 44 of Notebook).
b. Scene 1/Ode 1 (on page 46 of Notebook).
4. Start Scene 2/Ode 2, if time.

HW:
1. Dialogue Journals for Prologue/Parados and Scene 1/Ode 1.
2. Oedipus Vocabulary #1-20.
3. Finish Notebook assignments.

Wednesday/Thursday (10/15 and 10/16):
1. The Function of the Chorus (on page 45 of Notebook).
2. Oedipus the King: finish reading through--

3. Re-examine Greek Drama Notes (pages 38-39 in Notebook).

Week 6 (October 6 - 9) REVISED!

We are finally ready to start reading Oedipus the King! Try to use this long weekend to catch up on any notebook assignments you have not completed.

Monday/Tuesday (Oct. 6 and 7):
1. College Essay Revision due.
2. Editing work: Fat Cutting Exercises and Checklist.
3. Notes on Greek Tragedy (pages 38 and 39 in Notebook).
4. Process (also on pages 38 and 39 in Notebook): Write 10 quiz questions (level 1 and/or 2) in right margin of handouts...due next class period.
5. Work Time for: Greek Terms handout, Greek Tragedy Quiz Qs Process (see #4 above), updating Notebook, etc.

HW:

We are starting our unit on the play, Oedipus the King by Sophocles this week.

1. College Essay Rough Draft due
2. Activity: Peer Review
3. Notebook pages 30/31 = Big Ideas/Unit 2: Oedipus the King by Sophocles
4. Start work on definitions on Greek Terms handout (pages 32 and 33 in notebook)

HW:
1. Read "Critical Casebook: Sophocles" (put on page 35 in notebook)...Quiz over this material next class period.
2. On page 34 of notebook, make a list of important terms from "Critical Casebook: Sophocles"
3. College Essay Revision...due next Mon/Tue (10/6 and 10/7).

Wednesday/Thursday (Oct. 1 and 2):
1. Quiz on Greek Drama (information on "Critical Casebook: Sophocles")
2. Warm-up (page 36 in notebook): Is it important to always know the truth? Explain...
3. Start reading Plato's "The Allegory of the Cave"(page 37 in notebook)...identify what you understand and don't understand.
3. Process (page 36): Using details from the text, illustrate the "allegory of the cave."
